The University of Wisconsin's Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems

has released its 2006 Life Satisfaction and Dairy Farming survey, which finds that life satisfaction is a key determinant in sticking with a career in dairying.  This survey may be of some benefit to Southeastern United States in examining a life and career in dairy production.

Results of the survey include:

  • The level of life satisfation varied by dairy farm.
  • Farmers using different dairy farm systems evaluated life satisfaction differently.
  • Men and women on dairy farms used different criteria for evaluating life satisfaction.
  • Differences in life satisfaction between dairy farms were not just a matter of money.
