USDA Official to Discuss Farmland Equity Access Models

by Andrew Branan last modified 2007-10-17 07:55

Under Secretary for Rural Development Thomas C. Dorr will present to the Rural Center's November 30, 2008 meeting of the Agricultural Advancement Consortium.

The North Carolina Rural Center's Agricultural Advancement Consortium will be hosting a presentation by Under Secretary for Rural Development Thomas C. Dorr. According to the US Department of Agriculture, there is more than $1.7 trillion in equity in farmland in the United States.  Under Secretary Dorr’s presentation will focus on what states need to do to create low-risk investment models that will allow land-owners access to the equity built up in their farmland.  This would provide a market-based tool helping to alleviate the development pressures on land-owners who are cash poor, but asset rich.
