Kansas

Located in the Midwestern region of United States, is a fertile region because of the Kansas River and the Arkansas River flowing through it. In broad the entire Kansas is divided in to central lowlands and the Great Plains. Both the regions are rich in soil and climate making the region agricultural belt of United States. The climate of the region is humid continental climate, with cool to cold winters and hot humid summers. Most of the annual precipitation in Kansas occurs in the months of April to August, which is considered apt for growing. The cultivation period in Kansas varies from about 160 days in northwest to 190 days in the south and southeast. Mollisols is the type of soil in the region which varies from udolls to ustolls from region to region.

Agriculture and Livestock

Kansas is a significant contributor to the country’s revenue which comes from agricultural products and livestock. Wheat, corn, soybeans and sorghum grain are grown extensively in the region. Hay and Alfalfa are other extensive crops. Apart from this sunflower, cotton, barley, potatoes, beans, oats, and barley are grown as rotation crops. Kansas is the leading producer of wheat in the country and is called the wheat basket of the world. Livestock consists of cattle and calves grown for their meat and milk. Hogs, pigs and sheep are also reared for their commercial value.

Wheat Belt of Kansas

Kansas is the largest producer of wheat in United States and accounts for great revenue of expert quality for the country. Wheat in the region is grown in three different varieties based on the climatic variations, hard red winter, the soft red winter wheat and the hard white winter variety. The former is exported both domestically and internationally. Army cutworm, Banks grass mites, English grains Aphids, Green bug, White Grub are all some pests which are taken care for.
